Activator Method: What To Expect

Whether you’ve turned to chiropractic care before or not, you may know that spinal manipulation or adjustments offer a variety of different techniques and modalities to improve how the body functions as a whole while reducing pain and other physical complaints.

During chiropractic care, a chiropractor manually manipulates certain soft tissue of the body to adjust areas that may be tight, tense, immobile or out of place. Of course, one popular chiropractic method we offer here at Shaw Chiropractic Center is the Activator Method.

How Is It Performed

The Activator Method is performed while the patient is lying down. We will often start at the lower back and work our way up, targeting each vertebra all the way up the back until we reach the head. We will also evaluate the joints of and around the spine to pinpoint other problem areas.

While other forms of spinal manipulation involve hands-on manipulation and adjustment, the Activator Method uses a device to perform adjustments. This device applies safe, rapid low-force thrusts, providing just the right amount of pressure to realign specific areas of the body. Since the device provides quick movements, it doesn’t give the muscles time to resist, which provides faster, more effective results. The Activator Method is a painless, non-invasive treatment.

How Many Sessions Do You Need?

The Activator Method requires multiple treatment sessions depending on the type and severity of your symptoms. Our chiropractor will map out your treatment plan, which may include 1-2 sessions per week for up to six weeks. Of course, we will continue to evaluate your progress along the way. Some people experience full relief from their symptoms after just a few treatments while others may need additional sessions.

The Activator Method may be ideal for those patients dealing with,

  • Herniated discs
  • Joint inflammation
  • Neck and back pain
  • Musculoskeletal disorders
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Nerve pain
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Whiplash
  • Sciatica
  • Migraines and chronic headaches

If you have questions about the Activator Method chiropractic techniques and whether it could improve your back and neck pain then call Shaw Chiropractic Center today at (804) 741-3068 to schedule a consultation.
